Getting on the mat with a test of patience... and plenty of frustration Nursing a damaged shoulder and hamstring. I've been instructed no impact or weight bearing on my leg and no strenuous or aggravating movements with my arm. So, pretty much nothing more than walking. To make things more fun, without the regular release of yoga my spine is loading up with a lot of compression. Prolonged walking and standing is painful. Many friends have said this is a time to learn to be gentle with myself. I spent a good while lying on the bolster breathing. (And contemplating what I can do that doesn't involve my arms or legs or being upright for too long 🤔)
Have you been to a Yoga class and heard the word #Prana ? What is it? Prana is the sanskrit word for life force. BUT what does life force mean? Prana is the radiance of life itself. Within us, prana is moving force behind sensation and activity, the burn of metabolism, the carrier of thought, and force of will.

This is a perfect depiction of what happens every time I close my eyes. I've fallen in and out of a meditation practice since beginning my yoga journey. I remember when first doing my teacher training I loved waking up at 5am to meditate in the morning as it was having a profound effect on my body and state of mind. _______________________________ Lately something is calling me toward meditation. Yoga and meditation are one and the same, yoga is a state that through meditation we can attain. _______________________________ The postures (asanas) that we practice on a regular basis are almost essential to a meditation practice. Sometimes it can seem pointless to want to bend and move your body in all these different ways, the only actual purpose of doing it is to enable your body to sit comfortably and still for longer periods of time. Have you ever tried to sit for 1 hour without moving? It's not easy. It requires social training of the body and the mind. The back must become strong, the hips need to be open, the mind must be focused. ________________________________ I often get told 'I can't meditate' How to begin a meditation practice... You might have seen me say -open your body, open your mind so . . . My first advice would be focus on making some physical changes, sit on the floor more often, close your eyes more often, let your body enable you to sit, be comfortable, but don't lie down. - don't get stressed over thoughts that are coming, do not engage in conversation with yourself, become the observer. - focus on your third eye ( the space between your eyebrows) - keep a gentle smile on your face and focus on your inhale and exhale - set a period of time for which you will sit, start small with two minutes and increase it over time. So I've been running group #Yoga classes at the Marrickville PCYC at 7pm on Tuesday nights for the last 4 weeks and it's been really fun! There are some days I can do this, and some days I can't. Be patient with yourself and don't get frustrated. Be kind, gentle, and listen to your body when poses are uncomfortable or painful. P.S I really wanted my right leg to be straight but I'm still proud of how this picture turned out l. Don't give up! 🌙🌻
I never used to understand why people would spend more than $10 on a yoga/ exercise mat when you can buy from K-mart for super cheap but after receiving this beautiful yoga mat from @yogadesignlab have to say I totally get it now, no more sore knees or hands from doing yoga on a flimsy mat!
