Today I saw two of my closest family members fight. Both spoke without a second thought about how their words could affect the other. Without a care they said things which were untrue, unnecessary and unkind. Sometimes we speak, before we have thought. Sometimes we think but do not speak. Words are the things which can move people, communities and countries to the brink of war, or the brink of peace. Words can heal, or hurt. Words can provide love, or hate... next time you have a conversation, or feel the need to say something, stop. ✋🏻 "Before you speak, let your words pass through three gates; Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind?" - Dalai Lama 💛

Ok, so the alignment's not "perfect" (ie knees into armpits) but life, like yoga, is not perfect! Yeah it's great to have goals and aspirations but always take a look back at how far you've come. For example, I used to hate crow and regularly fell on my face (sometimes still do!) But I appreciate how much I've learned and the perseverance that's come with it. How do you remind yourself to fly after you've fallen?
"Accepting means you allow yourself to feel whatever it is you are feeling at that moment. It is part of the isness of the NOW. You can't argue with what is. Well, you can, but if you do, you suffer." // Eckhart Tolle // When I got sober almost ten years ago, I was told often "acceptance is the key to all your problems". From the age of 15 to 24, I used alcohol, as well as food and people, to NOT feel whatever I was feeling in the moment. Whether it was losing someone I loved, a break up, or just simply the stress of having to do adult things, I did not want to feel anything, and therefore was not in acceptance. Slowly, one day at a time, this act of accepting has begun to unfold gracefully (and sometimes not so gracefully). I still struggle often, wanting to control the outcomes of situations, wanting to control people's behavior, wanting things to happen now. But ultimately the first step toward acceptance is being aware that you are not in acceptance and reflecting on your actions. With awareness comes insight, with insight comes the ability to make change. There is no perfect life. There is no perfect body. The people who you look up to and idolize also have problems. Perfection isn't real; it's an idea we create to push ourselves or put ourselves down. Let go of that notion. Instead of perfect, try to be better each day than you were the day before. The work starts inside with you, not outside chasing an ideal that's not attainable.

“Up to a point a man’s life is shaped by environment, heredity, and movements and changes in the world about him. Then there comes a time when it lies within his grasp to shape the clay of his life into the sort of thing he wishes to be. Only the weak blame parents, their race, their times, lack of good fortune, or the quirks of fate. Everyone has it within his power to say, This I am today; that I will be tomorrow.” ~Louis L’Amour ✨ 📷 @nikkiannespahn
