I think being a #writer is mostly about getting comfortable with rejection. When I was taking #writingclasses in college, mostly everyone would tell everyone else only positive things, but that's not the real world. When you get the first #rejectionletter the wind is taken out of you, and I've often thought about compiling all the #rejection letters I've gotten. But you have to keep going. You have to have faith in yourself, because no one else might. At the end of the day, if you're not doing it for pure love of writing, it'll never seem worth it. #quote#writingquotes#witersofinstagram#books#booklovers
It's easy to get caught up in all the little things. Maintenence and upkeep can really derail your focus but as long as you are moving in the right direction than it's progress. Focus on what matters! I am feeling it!
One of my greatest setbacks when trying to write my current book was second-guessing every line and feeling like each one needed to be powerful and filled with unforgettable quotes and description. I was trying to capture the intensity I felt for the story in my heart with words, but I realized that it wasn't the words that mattered — it was the story they told. My book isn't important because it sounds pretty; it's important because it's about people struggling with who they are, what they'd done and what they wish they could do (but they're too moral to allow). It's about humanity and acceptance of flaws, which, as I'm sure you're probably aware, isn't a flowery thing at all. So please don't avoid writing because your descriptions won't be framed. Tell your story and make it real. That's what people want to read. The real stories are the ones people remember.
And here we are! The first part of my writing quote series. Really like how this one turned out and excited for the rest. I also think this quote is a great one because it emphasizes the treasure of the human mind over material possessions. Gold is great, but it doesn't last forever. It doesn't live after you. It doesn't translate your experience to another being. But words are invaluable; they cross borders — physical, mental, and emotional — and connect us to others who we might never even meet.
