Fast food #slowfood Thursday: 2 adults preparing a 6 minute meal, so two minutes each! Many times I am asked how we get our kids to eat (and even request) salad. It didn't happen overnight. We've had the same struggles everyone else has. Kids are kids. I tell them, "if our kids can make these choices, any kid can do it." Kids are pretty tough characters when it comes to change. My wife just told me she's trying to shave off $150 from our weekly shopping bill (for the month) so that leaves us with meal morphing and left overs. I've been craving saurkraut. Weird right? I guess it's better than pizza! For some reason it was hard to find compliant kraut. Maybe i was looking in the wrong places. Finally found this in the natural foods section by the tea. Random! My plan was for pork chops, applesauce and saurkraut but I'm having trouble chewing so I opted for something softer and had @applegate hot dogs with mustard, kraut, applesauce and pan cooked apples. Before and after shot of dinner in the making. Super quick and simple beet noodles and tilapia sautéed in a fire roasted spicy tomato and mushroom sauce (fire roasted tomato, water, balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper and lots of garlic) with crushed red pepper for some extra heat! Threw in Dijon mustard crispy brussels and a side of truffle balsamic glazed acorn squash. I love when a last minute kitchen sink meal comes together and the flavors of this one are spot on! Dessert is obviously a side of @newpop in honor of the return of Scandal and National Popcorn Day!

Ok, so I won this free meat a while back from @butcher_box.  I had this item called Thin Sliced Beef, but it was frozen and packaged and just looked like a roast or something. I thawed it and when I saw that it was literally thin sliced beef "duh!" I thought of like a Philly Cheese Steak.  But, since I was too lazy to look up the product on the BB website, I was also too lazy to go to the store to get other needed ingredients.  That being said, I raided my fridge and came up with this.  Thinly sliced beef browned in coconut oil with carrots, two small shallots, two cloves of garlic, and two broccoli heads.  I simmered it all down in chicken bone broth.  Once in my bowl, I kept thinking Philly Cheese Steak and pepperoncini peppers, but had none.  HERE COMES THE MONEY SHOT... I sliced up a @bubbiespickles brined/fermented dill pickle and put on a gob of sauerkraut, also from Bubbies.  Whoa.  So good! I will do this again.

M3/ PWO Dinner # Make meals out worth it and practice seeing them as a treat because someone else is making them (i.e. a night off from cooking for you), not an invitation to go balls out because you can.  # Sure, we might have our more indulgent than usual eats at our favorite local spots (mine's a bunless burger, hold the cheese, and Brussels or fries - no ketchup - at @stoneroseconshy; or the Pom Pom at @salsasnc, in case you were wondering), but it's important to practice ritualizing (occasional, special), not habitualizing (daily, automatic) these meals. # Since Thursday feels like my Friday (we don't go into the office Fridays), it (or Friday) tends to be my night off from "cooking." And, you may already know by now that I am obsessed with this Buff Chicken Salad, which IS totally worth it IMHO. # A bit higher in sodium than I'm used to, perhaps, but still protein and veggie-packed, just as I do most nights at home. Could I order the pizza or calzone? Sure. But that wouldn't leave me feeling good after so, I'll take a pass. # Do you tend to order the same or different [than you would choose at home] when you go out? First, a restock on @vitalproteins collagen peptides because the whole house is addicted now 😍  Second, @pureencapsulations prenatal nutrients that my very favorite @againstallgrain recommended. We don't plan on conceiving until after our wedding next June but my GP asked that I start to take something like this 1-2 years before for general health. So, here we go!  Third, my very first @drtungs tongue scraper. I just tried it for the first time and it really is worth the hype! I plan to start using it each morning to start my day off extra fresh!  Fourth, and my favorite thing, is this gnocchi/garganelli maker. My grandma taught me how to make both and I can't wait to make a paleo (not Whole 30 because pasta) version with potatoes, an egg, salt and either cassava flour or tapioca starch. I can't wait to send her pictures, she's going to be so excited!

This Easy Southwest Chicken is...well, EASY. and you need it in your life. Here's the recipe! 3 large chicken breasts 1 cup southwest salsa (make your own or use store bought like I did) 1 can of black beans, rinsed  In your Instant Pot, add the chicken and cook on the Poultry setting for 10 minutes.  Release the pressure and shred the chicken. Then add the salsa and beans.  Use the Manual setting and cook for another 10 minutes.  Release the pressure and serve over white rice or vegetables. This is also great to add to salads, quesadillas, or to just eat as a quick protein snack!  See, I told you it was easy! I made this with my broiled bacon broccoli recipe and white rice and it has been delicious all week. Perfect for your meal prep!

If you want to help the detox process along, there are things you can do that don't involve basically starving yourself with "cleanses", here you go: 💥stop drinking for a little while - give your liver a break. 💥Do some castor oil packs at night, help that liver. 💥Cut back on sugar, helps the liver💥Eat more vegetables 💥Go to sleep earlier. Just a few to get you going 😘.
