Instead of asking "How the hell did i get here?!" Ask "What can i do to change it?!" This was a random thought as I was working out today. I have made excuse after excuse as to why I have put on weight when frankly it just comes down to laziness. Work needs to be done and work will be done. BUT felt like I had a fourth, and I did, but my fucking hips (or ankles idek) hitched. Osteoporosis has become a silent epidemic. Approximately 30% of postmenopausal women in the US and Europe are affected. Of these, about 40% will sustain some type of fragility fracture. Kate and Mears cited an alarming statistic in 2011 stating that a woman's risk of dying from a hip fracture (two main risk factors being osteoporosis and falls) exceeded the life time risk of dying from breast cancer, uterine cancer, and ovarian cancer combined. -------------------- So what lifestyle changes can we make to slow this epidemic? A meta-analysis by Howe et al in 2011 looked at 43 randomized trials consisting of 4320 participants to assess the effects of exercise on bone mineral density (BMD). The results showed significant positive effect on BMD at the lumbar spine and femur (two of the most common places for osteoporotic fractures). -------------------- Calatayud et al conducted a literature review and concluded that a combination of weight-bearing exercises with progressive resistance strength training had the largest impact on both increasing BMD and slowing its decline. Felt like I needed to warm up powerlifting competition, before next months "Let's Make Powerlifting Great Again" comp at @lynnwoodcrossfit  I was happy with each of my lifts, as I tried to do them as if it were a sanctioned event.  7 of 8, with only one miss at 235lbs on the bench press. I will be working up to heavy weights leading up to the final competition of my year.  Thank you @crossfitironindustry and Josh for hosting a great event and all the volunteers who stayed to help out and judge! 👍🏻❤️😀#
