To all my Spartan people looking to get some upper body strength and grip strength at the same time, this is an excellent way to get both. OCR season is right around the corner!!! Get your strength up, bring a friend to train with you and let's get it going!!! What is OCR? Obstacle course racing. It's a 5k with fun stuff in between and you get to do it all with your friends and gym buddies. Whether you have done 20-30 races or have never even thought of doing one before, now is a great opportunity to give it a thought! When we train, having a reason behind doing what we are doing gives us ammunition to keep going, keeps us motivated, keeps us progressing and keeps us looking forward to something. This isn't a video of me. Just a proud coaching moment. As a coach, you know the habits people form... I've been there before. We can give all the tips in the world but until an athlete sets their ego aside, forgets about the little "RX" next to their name and really truly listens to you, you see them stuck in habits that have now become second nature to them. Toes to bar are a classic example. How many of you rekip every single rep just to make sure you get your toes to the bar? Last week I told Meera (left) to forget her toes touching, forget RX, just get her toes as high as possible with going right into the next rep. By the end of that workout, she was linking all sets of her toes to bar... at the END of the workout!!! Today I told Nicole (right) the same thing. We tweaked her grip, her kip, where she was looking, and bam she was consistently hitting small sets throughout the 30 min workout. Making yourself a better athlete and getting the correct work in is far better and goes much farther down the road than getting that RX next to your name for one day. Thank you so much Meera and Nicole for trusting me and giving it a shot. I'm so proud of you and share your excitement. Too often, we believe in luck and chance. Even worse, we wait for it. I'm really skeptical of such a thing. ___ The people we admire who have done remarkable things MAY admit to "chance" and "luck" playing a factor. ___ I disagree. ___ There were a host of failures, inner struggles, experiences, thoughts, obstacles, and actions that led them to the pinnacle of whatever that "lucky" moment might be. If any, at all. ___ The outside eye will often perceive great feats as chance. To the person who's actually experiencing "chance", will often laugh. Because they can't begin to tell you all the things that added up to that moment. ___ Leave nothing up to chance. Prepare as if it does not exist. And chance just might find you.
