Moment of truth here you guys. When I was a little kid I HATED reading. You want to know why? The school system shoved whatever books they wanted down our throats. I always hated the book that they wanted us to read. It was never what I wanted to read. Ever. And due to that, they told my parents that I had literacy problems. It wasn't until I was older that I realized it was because I had absolutely no interest in the books they were trying to force feed us. I had a more unique imagination than that. Then I got to be around middle school aged and something magical happened. I discovered books that I never knew existed. Books filled with fantasy, magic, adventure, folklore, legends, paranormal beasts, fairy tales (including bed time stories and dark tales). All of a sudden I wanted to read every book I could get my hands on. I had found the truest form of human magic that existed on earth. People could write stories written so well that I could transport myself to another adventure filled life so different from my own. It was then that I fell in love with books. Soon after I began to escape reality by writing my own stories. My mom actually helped me towards the start of my writing career. She encouraged me to write my own stories based off of novels I was reading in school because I found most of them to be boring. It was a way to get me more involved in my reading and I found it way more interesting. Years went by and I continued to write short stories as well as starting novels, but never finishing them. Then adulthood took over my life. I let social outings with friends and college work take up most of my time. I finally graduated from college in Spring of 2015, then shortly after I became engaged to my best friend who I had been dating for 5 years. After that we came across an opportunity to have a house of our own which was a real fixer upper. It occupied most of our time for about a year of renovating, cleaning, painting, etc. Now I am happily planning our wedding and getting serious about my writing career. So I was wondering, what's your own story? What's your why behind writing? I would love to read YOUR story! :)
Okay, not my greatest excerpt, but considering that I haven't written anything in a month, I'll take it! I'm back to working on my rewrite of book 1 and I got about 880 new words tonight. I decided I needed a different chapter one so I got to write my main character being the total dork that he is. He's going to make a great first impression in those ducky slippers, let me tell ya. (But I think it gets the point across that I'm writing comedic/lighthearted fantasy.) #writing#writer#writersofinstagram#writersofig#authorsofinstagram#fantasywriter#amwriting#excerpt
Is it bad that I'm a fantasy writer, but I've never read The Lord of the Rings? 🙈🙈🙈 I FEEL REALLY BAD ABOUT THIS.⠀ ⠀ I mean, the movies deeply inspired me a decade ago and were a huge part of getting me into the genre.⠀ ⠀ But I haven't actually READ the most beloved classics of high fantasy. These are basically... the foundation.⠀ ⠀ I need to fix this.⠀ ⠀ Have you read The Lord of the Rings? Are you a fan, or nah?

Yesterday I brought up author theme, but do you know what your book theme is? Book theme is an important factor you should decide on before digging deep into writing your novel. Without a book theme you really don't know where you're going towards the end of your book. Today I want you to think about your own work in progress, You need to determine what message do you want to give the reader throughout and/or at the end of your book? Does it have to deal with external or internal struggles? P.S.-Is anyone else reading "A Court of Mist and Fury" by Sarah J. Maas? It's the first awesome YA fantasy book I've gotten to bury myself into for awhile now. Are you Team Tamlin or Team Rhysand? Let's discuss in the comments! Anyone who hasn't read "A Court of Thorns and Roses," there may be spoilers in the comments. You have been forewarned!!!
I'm a day late for this little snippet from my WIP! Yesterday on Twitter for #wipjoy we shared lines about love or hatred, but I found this short bit which has a bit of both! Since it's not short enough to fit into one tweet I made it into a picture, and thought it'd fit well here, too. Naturally I couldn't scale it down enough to fit here, so I had to redo it today to make sure the whole thing is readable 😅 Anyway, it's a brief excerpt from my WIP DARKENED LIGHT 😊 #amwritingfantasy#amwriting#wip#darkenedlight#fantasywip#fantasywriter#excerpt#highfantasy
#novelsatnightjan17 Day 11: Book + Music---"Art is long, and Time is fleeting/ And our hearts, though stout and brave/ Still, like muffled drums, are beating/ Funeral marches to the grave." --Longfellow ••••• Music is a vital part of my writing and of who I am as a person. Just as I can't imagine my life without the written word, I can't fathom my life without music. I need both to live 💙 ••••• Bands shown are My Dying Bride, This Mortal Coil, Einstürzende Neubauten, Lycia, Switchblade Symphony, Blutengel.
When writing my novel I like to think about what my author theme is and it's a good idea for you to come up with your own too! Author themes help us determine what type of message we'd like to portray in our novels. Every writer has their own message they want to give their audience. Personally, I love to put hidden meanings of "change" into my writing. We all have a beginning, middle, and end. We all have strengths and weaknesses that show in our daily struggles. I love to capture the inner mind and soul behind that journey of change. What's your own author theme that you like to put into your own writing?
This week I wanted to share with you guys what my word of the year is. I think it helps mentally prepare a strategy for how we want to achieve our future goals which is so crucial to looking at the bigger picture of our yearly plans. So my word of the year is...*drum-rolls* Focus! I really put some thought into this and I decided focus was the best thing for me to work on in 2017. I've always had a problem with sticking through to an end goal and I've decided enough is enough! Focus will be what helps me trail through my wants and needs of what can be done this year. I WILL FOCUS on my blog, writing my story, as well as my wedding to come in July 22, 2017!!! And I am SUPER psyched to share my journey with you! Have you decided on your word of the year? Share it in the comments! I've always loved a new beginning and I want to hear about yours as well! :)

"Let me tell you", she said. "Each time you come to my world, you leave something behind in yours." I gazed at her back and watched her cast shadows into shapes that were inhuman. She walked ahead and disappeared. Knowing that all I had to do was walk felt liberating. All I had to do was leave. What was I really leaving behind? What I longed for was in front of me and I followed her. Knowing her world was better than keeping a knowledge of mine. Feeling the light of glowing trees in my eyes, I was free.
Mission accomplished!
