FRC--- PART 2 of 3 “Better Than Static Stretching” We all love to static stretch. Just lay down and lean over to one side of the body and chill.... It's easy. But when is the easy way ever the best way? Static stretching lacks muscle activation and functionality. Without muscle activation there is no positional learning therefore there is no motor pattern your body you have to be able to hold tension and breath at the same association. There are better alternatives. Functional Range Conditioning is one of those alternatives and (secondary to squatting, deadlifting, and pressing with correct form) is probably my favorite. The idea is to contract through your entire available range and hit all the corners of that range. This increases neuromuscular activity to areas that typically aren't getting it thus making that new range available for you to use when you move. Disclaimer… if you start to cramp doing this, it’s okay, just keep going. Thats your body’s way of learning this position.
