Very happy to announce that my work has been accepted to be featured in the next issue of Studio Visit Magazine! The issue will come out this winter. Now I just have to decide which pieces I want to feature ❤️ "Journeys End" will likely be one. Thoughts on the second piece? All of my newest work is currently up on my website www.cherylpolcaro.com Would love to hear opinions!
5 Min.
Latest painting. This one is a more abstract Tide Pool for the Becoming Sand series. It is painted on top of silver leaf which was ever so picky to partner with. It didn’t let me off lightly. After an ongoing conversation, I like the mystery of what evolved. The silver leaf makes a reflective counterpoint to the dark indigo. + For more on Smuggler’s Cove and the Becoming Sand series, see www.janeynow.com
Mapping out basic composition on golden ratio structure and then playing with light and contrast within my chosen palette. This is the sister piece to the one I completed last week ("Frolic", see previous post). The idea being that they make up a pair. Another look at the two color palettes for the next few months. Feeling very excited to start working with the one on the right. Note: Incorporating the black from the left has been very interesting. #staytuned for images!
Another of my favourites from the RA Schools Show, this time an installation shot from the exhibit by Jack Burton. Burton has a BA from Chelsea College of Arts, and experiments with digital imagery and photography through the use of photoshop, as well as employing traditional artistic techniques such as collage, painting and found object sculpture.
At the end of June I visited this years Royal Academy Schools Show, and was generally blown away by the incredible talent on show. The RA Schools offer the only free postgraduate contemporary art course in the UK, and after three years of development and experimentation the artists open up their studios and exhibit their work for the Schools Show. This is a selection of work by the Romanian artist Zsofi Margit. A graduate of the Hungarian University of Fine Art in Budapest, Margit work is grounded in the tradition of still life painting, but explores a way to expand the picture plane and integrate the art form into our 3D reality.
